Textile Treasures exhibition

The NFWI and the National Needlework Archive (NNA) have just completed a 3 year project to record all the textiles owned by WIs, federations, the NFWI and Denman College.  More than 9,000 pieces of work have been recorded.
The culmination of the project was a series of exhibitions around the country showing a small selection of the 'treasures' that have been recorded.  The exhibitions were staged within the Sewing for Pleasure and Creative Stitches shows organised by the International Craft and Hobby Fairs (ICHF).  Over 80,000 people visited the 6 shows during the Autumn of 2007 and Spring 2008.
The NNA have produced a full colour book with illustrations of all the items displayed in the exhibitions along with a history of textiles in the WI.  Titled Textile Treasures of the WI is available either via the online shop or from the NFWI Unit priced at £14.99 plus postage and packaging.
The video below, with commentary by Susan Hornby (Education Committee Chair), gives you a flavour of the exhibition.

The NFWI and the NNA would like to thank ICHF for sponsoring the Textile Treasures exhibitions and to all our members who have taken part in the project.
